FAQs

What is Network for Sustainable Solutions (NSS)?

NSS is a 501c3 nonprofit community-building organization for the sustainability community of Tennessee. We aim to be a "one-stop-shop" for sustainability efforts, curating a directory of organizations and businesses focused on sustainability, posting jobs from those registered within the directory, and facilitating community events to accelerate sustainable action across the state.

Who can use NSS's resources?

Any person can utilize and access our resources, including the Directory and Job Board. Everyone is welcome to attend our events.

What are the requirements for registering organizations and businesses with NSS?

You will find our registration form here. Our registration page asks a shortlist of questions that determine whether our focuses are aligned. Most of the time, if an organization or business focuses on environmental and/or social responsibility in some way, then we would align. If in doubt, register, and we can figure it out from there!

What are the priorities of NSS?

Equitable and lasting sustainable action that addresses the needs of local communities directly. We believe the most exciting possibilities occur when bringing together folks working towards sustainability in diverse areas like: food, energy, water, transportation, land use, retail, social issues, etc.

How does NSS support itself as an organization?

Through tax-deductible and suggested donations driven by website usage, sponsorships, as well as our consulting and facilitation work. We are exploring creative options for building a financially sustainable organization.

Why doesn't NSS focus on sustainability education?

We are not the keepers of knowledge but the connectors to knowledge. This is about filling needs through expertise that already exists. NSS prides itself as an organization that listens to community challenges, then addresses them by supporting local people who can solve the challenge. An education focus would detract from creating an equitable and open community network.
